Some “secret” places that you can’t miss if you’re planning to spend few days between Ancona and its surroundings.First we suggest the Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Porto Novo. It’s located on a cliff overlooking the beach of Portonovo, at the slope of Mount Conero.
Then Arcevia with the Piticchio Castle, and the village of Serra San Quirico, where narrow streets, ancient portals, secret gardens and stone fountains will simply enchant you.
For kids, not far away, there is the Regional Natural Park of Gola della Rossa and of Frasassi.
If you are moving close to Senigallia, it’s worth stopping in the little village of Scapezzano where there is the Church of St. John the Baptist, with the viewpoint that turns around the hills and the Adriatic Sea, till the promontory of Conero mount.
Also you shouldn’t miss the “Sergio Anselmi” museum of sharecropping history, a permanent exhibition that shows the local farmer tradition.
And if you still have some energy left, there is Corinaldo village. Climb to the top of the tower and enjoy the Apennines view with the Monti Azzurri in the distance …
